Description:

The Katadyn Siphon turns any water container into a gravity-fed microfiltration system. Simply place the ceramic filter (hose attached) into the container, place the container on higher ground, and let the siphon action take care of the rest. That's it! Filters 1.2 gallons/hour. The Siphon is a member of Katadyn's exclusive Endurance Series, which basically means this filter will last forever. Its silver impregnated, cleanable ceramic element will clean up to 5,000 gallons of water. The Siphon also works as a replacement element for the Katadyn Camp system.

I've bought this filter every year since 2006. We use it at our cabin and have learned a few things about it. The first is that it helps to prefilter the water or, as someone else pointed out, let it settle first. We use a strainer on our lake pump and then push it through an Aqua-Pure paper filter before going into the top holding tank. This Katadyn filter then passes water into our lower "clean" tank for use inside. In the spring when tanin levels seem to be higher, the Katadyn filter tends to clog faster. Therefore we use last year's filter (cleaned) to start off the year and then switch in a new Katadyn filter once the tanin levels have lowered by late spring or early summer. It's a good filter but can be easily fouled up by the water if you're not careful.
